Description
This is a landscape photograph of Spider Rock in Canyon de Chelly National Park.
The legend of Spider Rock: It's the legendary home of Spider Woman. Spider Woman sent Monster-Slayer and Child-Born-Of-Water to find, Sun-God, their father, who taught them how to destroy some world threatening monsters. She taught the Dine (Navajo) the art of weaving, and is highly honored for this important gift. She also is a source of discipline of children. She carries disobedient children to the top of spider rock and eats them, turning the rocks at the top are white with their bones.
I have another photograph of this location and time which is a huge stitched vertical panorama. It clearly shows one of the granaries at the right of the right tower, at the base. This photograph shows two granaries, right on the edge of the shadow, but without the increased detail of a telephoto, there isn't a lot of detail there. But they should be identifiable, at larger print sizes.
Note: I do not know the name of the mountain in the background. It might just south of Wpper Wheatfields, Northeast of Navajo Highway 12, near the New Mexico border, but I'm not sure.
