Description
A self portrait on an unusual steed. Note the cable release "snake" about to bite the lizard. This wonderful sculpture is by bronze artist Heather Johnson Beary, who can be contacted at this website: http://hjohnsonbeary.com/contactsent.htm. The statue is at a combined park headquarters on the west side of the town of Escalante, Utah. You should definitely stop there to see it, and to get road conditions if you intend to travel the dirt roads there. This is one of the best places in the country to do about 40 to 200 miles on gravel roads, but you should be aware of problems with roads when it rains, particularly. Rangers are very helpful about telling you which roads are passable to what kinds of cars.
And don't forget to take a scrapbook photo next to this fascinating sculpture. You might want to try a different angle, it's great from every side. The eye is just absolutely fascinating, and the accuracy of the likeness is incredible.

Actually, I was. I got permission from the rangers to sit on this amazing sculpture, and then set up the camera on a tripod. I have a 30 foot cable release cable, and also used the camera's self-timer function. You can see the cable release at the bottom of the photo. I would click the release, and then run around and jump on the lizard's back. I was lucky, he never bit me.
